First, pay attention to the timing of application.
Organic fertilizers act slowly and should be applied early, generally as a one-time base application before sowing or transplanting. It is best to decompose them before use; later top-dressing is not as effective as using them as a base fertilizer.
Chemical fertilizers act quickly. When used as a base fertilizer, they should be applied about a week in advance. During top-dressing, they should be applied before the crop reaches its nutritional critical period or nutrient uptake peak to meet its needs.
Bio-fertilizers need to reproduce extensively in the soil before they can suppress harmful bacteria. Therefore, they should be applied early before transplanting to allow time for reproduction and growth. They can be applied together with organic fertilizers into the soil or applied in a hole before or during transplanting.
Secondly, pay attention to the application method.
Organic fertilizer mainly functions to improve soil while providing nutrients and is generally applied as a base fertilizer into the soil. Therefore, it should be combined with deep plowing so that the soil and organic fertilizer are thoroughly mixed to achieve the purpose of improving the soil. If the soil has serious problems, the use of a biological stimulator such as Sea Wizard can further improve the soil environment, balance nutrients, and increase soil aggregate structure.
In the base fertilizer, since the nutrients in organic fertilizer are mainly nitrogen, the nitrogen fertilizer mixed with organic fertilizer can be applied in smaller amounts, with 30% as base fertilizer and 70% as top dressing. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be applied once as a base fertilizer. Because phosphorus fertilizer has poor mobility and the effect of later top dressing is very limited, it should be applied as a base fertilizer into the soil.
For top-dressing chemical fertilizers, it is best to use fully soluble and fast-acting fertilizers, such as phosphate-potassium sources. These fertilizers can be quickly absorbed by vegetables after decomposition and have minimal impact on the soil.
Microbial fertilizers, due to their small dosage, can be applied concentrated in planting holes or along with organic fertilizer as a base application. Later, the same microbial fertilizer can be top-dressed multiple times to boost the microbial population, enhancing phosphorus and potassium solubilization ability and disease prevention effects.
Once again, pay attention to the application amount.
Different crops at different growth stages require varying amounts of fertilizer; it should neither be applied too much nor too little. Fertilization should be carried out according to the nutrient requirements of the specific crop, while also taking into account the nutrient content of the soil. It is best to conduct a soil test and follow fertilization recommendations based on the test results.
